Palisades Vineyard carries a grape-growing legacy dating back to the 1870s, making it one of Calistoga’s most historic and character-rich sites. We began working with the vineyard in 2023, recognizing its depth, structure, and its ability to form the backbone of our Disciples Red Wine—a seamless, field-blend–inspired wine crafted from old-vine, heritage vineyards. Rooted in an ancient alluvial fan of volcanic rock, fractured basalt, and gravelly loam, the head-trained, dry-farmed Petite Sirah vines—planted in the early 1970s—produce small, intensely flavored berries shaped by low-fertility soils and thoughtful, hands-on farming. To honor this remarkable site on its own, we bottle a limited-production Petite Sirah, giving voice to the vineyard that helps define the soul of Disciples.
Tasting Notes
Deep and inky at the outset, the wine gradually opens to reveal layers of black cherry, dark chocolate, cracked peppercorn, graphite, and dried herbs. The palate is juicy and full-bodied, carrying a concentrated core of boysenberry, black plum, and mixed dark fruits, balanced by Petite Sirah’s signature power and a thread of peppery spice and savory nuance. Dense yet refined, with firm, elegant tannins and vibrant acidity, the wine finishes long and resonant, echoing dark fruit, crushed-stone minerality, and warm baking spice — all supported by polished structure that promises graceful aging.
